ECO, Spanish for Oral Communication

Fall 1 - 2019

This course is designed for beginner-level students who have very little or no exposure to Spanish. Students will develop their oral communication skills in a relaxed environment.
The course consists of 5 progressive modules (A, B, C, D, E). Each module is 2-hour classes per week for six weeks. The five modules can be completed in one year.
Cost per module: $130 (tax and materials included)
*Students who complete or have completed the first module(s) (A and B) at UNAM-Canadá will receive a special price for the following modules: C ($110), D ($100) y E ($90). In all other cases, the price is $130.

Registration and placement test from July 22nd to 25th /September 3rd to 6th  

Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
For a placement test, arrive at least one hour before closing time.

Payment deadline is September 6th.

Deadline for a 75% refund is September 20th.

Course Contents:

Module A “Me in Spanish”

Recommended for students with little or no knowledge of Spanish.

In this module, students learn to exchange basic greetings and talk about themselves, their social surroundings and their personal preferences.

Module B "My People in Spanish"

Recommended for students with little knowledge of Spanish or who completed Module A.

In this module, students learn to talk about their feelings, leisure activities and personal plans. They also learn to describe physical and personality traits.

Module C “My City in Spanish”

Recommended for students with basic knowledge of Spanish or who completed Module B.

In this module, students learn to: express their wishes, preferences and opinions; talk about key places of interest in a city and locate them; make plans and extend invitations for social activities; and give information on transportation.

Module D “Our Trips in Spanish”

Recommended for students with basic knowledge of Spanish or who completed Module C.

In this module, students learn expressions for selecting travel options, making plans and justifying travel choices. They learn to: talk about the weather and other travel preferences, prepare for an upcoming trip and arrange for transportation and accommodation.

Module E “Emergency Situations in Spanish”

Recommended for students with basic knowledge of Spanish or who completed Module D.

In this module, students learn about different emergency situations they may find themselves in when visiting Latin America: last-minute shopping for a gift; recovering personal belongings; locating personal documents; and describing physical discomfort to a doctor. Students also learn expressions for requesting help and communicating their immediate needs.
