The National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) is an autonomous public body of the Mexican State, which does not depend on any other authority. Its mission is the defense, promotion, study and dissemination of human rights recognized in the Mexican Constitution, international treaties and laws. Its main objective is the protection of human rights, and it also carries out other activities such as the observance, promotion, study and dissemination of human rights. To achieve this, the CNDH has some of the following functions:
Receive complaints of alleged human rights violations;
Listen to and investigate alleged human rights violations;
Formulate public recommendations, complaints and grievances to the authorities;
Seek conciliation between the complainants and the authorities identified as responsible, as well as the immediate resolution of recognized conflicts;
Promote the observance of human rights in the country.
