TOEFL exam preparation course

Prepare students to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL iBT) and meet their needs at the upper-intermediate or advanced level in English.

















Who is this course for?

Course aimed at Spanish-speakers who need a high score on the TOEFL iBT in order to participate in mobility programs or undertake postgraduate studies at anglophone universities.

 

Objective

Prepare students to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL iBT) and meet their needs at the upper-intermediate or advanced level in English.

 

Direct profit obtained

Better understand the question format, expectations, techniques, and strategies for taking the TOEFL iBT test.

Review the most relevant linguistic functions to produce formal oral and written texts.

Improve oral communication, listening, written production and reading comprehension skills for academic and formal contexts.

 

Placement test required

Students must possess an upper-intermediate or advanced level in English or the equivalents of the Common European Framework (minimum B2).

Features

  • TOEFL A (140 hours) offers the workshops “TOEFL Training”, “Grammar Review for Academic Purposes”, “Common Grammar Errors”, “Pronunciation” and academic-cultural activities
  • TOEFL B (90 hours) proposes the workshops “TOEFL Training”, “Academic Language Functions”, and academic-cultural activities.
  • Canadian teachers, specialized in the linguistic techniques and requirements of the TOEFL exam as well as teaching English for academic purposes.
  • Personalized attention (small groups of 7-11 students on average)

  • Communicative approach (interactive activities in class)
  • Follow-up and feedback through practice tests and immersion tasks throughout the course.

Cultural immersion

  • Academic-cultural activities and talks with cultural ambassadors integrated into the study program

CONTENT PER MODULE

TOEFL Training (TOEFL A y B)

  • Rigorous review of the exam format, the type of questions in each section of the exam and the most effective techniques to obtain a better score.
  • Practice tests and immersion tasks to measure progress.

Academic Language Functions (TOEFL A y B)

  • Review of the most pertinent communication functions to carry out the TOEFL iBT and for academic and formal contexts.

Grammar Review for Academic Purposes (TOEFL A)

  • Review of grammatical structures and topics related to the communicative functions of upper-intermediate and advanced level of the workshop “Academic Language Functions”.

Error Correction(TOEFL A)

  • Review of grammatical structures and themes that are particularly problematic for Spanish speakers, with an emphasis on identifying and correcting mistakes.

Pronunciation (TOEFL A)

  • Review of pronunciation topics (sounds, intonation, etc.) that are particularly problematic for Spanish speakers, with an emphasis on the strategic use of these aspects for communication.

Academic-cultural activities

  • Academic activities (mobility fair, immersion tasks) and cultural outings that contribute to linguistic and cultural immersion in university contexts.
